Changing Colors

It’s the middle of September but I’m lagging behind, still wondering what happened to August. The leaves are turning already at higher elevations. If I don’t get my act together quickly, I’ll miss this year’s vibrant transition into fall. So I set my out-of-office notice and head for the trails. I choose a familiar lake loop: Bear Lake, Nymph Lake, Emerald Lake, and Lake Haiyaha. By the time the sun tops the horizon, I’m on the trail.

My day off is well-timed. My stress levels have been riding high for months now. I need a break. Actually, I need an extended break—a sabbatical. And after that, I might also need a career change. Of course, I might get a career change regardless, considering the current trajectory of my company. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

A splash of fall color on the way to Dream Lake.
Checking the back trail—as suspected, autumn colors are stalking me.

To better deal with my elevated stress levels, I started using a tool I’ve used in the past, OmniFocus.

On Sunday we get a slow start. We eat a leisurely breakfast and then wander around Flagstaff for a while, exploring a few places we have yet to see.

I’m not quite sure where to start with all this, but I guess Boulder is as good a place as any. Or maybe it would be better for me to summarize how we got to Boulder.
