Lake Helene

Lake Helene

Looking across the still waters of Bear Lake to the landscape beyond, I admire the scattering of bright gold aspen on the mountain slope beyond. Today marks only the first day of fall, but if the forecast holds, the colorful leaves I see now will soon be on the ground. By tomorrow morning, wintry temperatures and feisty winds will have moved in. Such conditions are sure to strip branches bare. But not to worry, today the weather is gorgeous and I’m on my way to a lake I’ve never visited before.

On the Trail Again
On the Trail Again
It’s Memorial Day and for today’s hike I decide to return to Lumpy Ridge to hike the Black Canyon Trail. My plan is not elaborate, I only hope to repeat the hike I did two weeks ago along the Black Canyon Trial.

Stowe
Phil and I have visited Stowe many times but I was surprised to realize that I’ve never devoted a post to it. It’s a stunning place, a vast landscape garden lovingly restored and maintained by the National Trust.
