Lake Helene

Friday, September 22nd, 2017 in Colorado
Lake Helene

Looking across the still waters of Bear Lake to the landscape beyond, I admire the scattering of bright gold aspen on the mountain slope beyond. Today marks only the first day of fall, but if the forecast holds, the colorful leaves I see now will soon be on the ground. By tomorrow morning, wintry temperatures and feisty winds will have moved in. Such conditions are sure to strip branches bare. But not to worry, today the weather is gorgeous and I’m on my way to a lake I’ve never visited before.

A Change of Plans
A Detour to Arches 1
One of the things I find most appealing about road trips is that you can change your plans at any point. When we decided to leave Mexican Hat early, we revised our itinerary to accomodate a quick trip to Arches National Park.
These Old Houses
These Old Houses
I arrived at the Sheraton in Portsmouth, New Hampshire a day early. Since I don’t have to leave for Appledore Islands until tomorrow, I took this opportunity to relax and explore the town, taking pictures of old houses.
Roxborough State Park
Roxborough State Park
For some time now, I’ve been wanting to explore some of Colorado’s state parks. Finally, today, we visited our first: Roxborough State Park, a 4,000 acre park that lies just southwest of Denver.
